THE REPORT SUMMARIZES THE ACTIVITIES OF THE COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION FOR CORRECTIONS FROM ITS INCEPTION IN 1974 AS PART OF THE AMERICAN CORRECTIONAL ASSOCIATION TO ITS INDEPENDENCE AS AN ORGANIZATION IN APRIL 1979.
Abstract
THE COMMISSION HAS DEVELOPED GOALS OF BOTH COMPREHENSIVE STANDARDS FOR ADULT AND JUVENILE CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES AND A NATIONAL VOLUNTARY PROGRAM OF COMPLIANCE WITH THESE STANDARDS. SEVERAL STANDARDS MANUALS HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED, AND THE COMMISSION IS PRESENTING WORKING ON ACCREDITATION BY GREATLY EXPANDING ITS CONTACTS WITH CORRECTIONAL AGENCIES AND ASSOCIATIONS. AN INCREASING NUMBER OF STATE AGENCIES HAVE JOINED THE ACCREDITATION PROGRAM, AND THE COMMISSION IS CONTINUING TO MONITOR THOSE PROGRAMS ALREADY ACCREDITED. EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR USE IN ACCREDITATION AND MONITORING PROCEDURES HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED, AND THE BY-LAWS, ACCREDITATION FEE SCHEDULES, AND FUND-RAISING ACTIVITIES ARE BEING REVIEWED. ATTACHMENTS TO THE FINAL REPORT INCLUDE MINUTES FROM THE FEBRUARY 1979 MEETING OF THE COMMISSION, THE MARCH 1979 ACTIVITY REPORT, A LIST OF PUBLICATIONS, AND QUARTERLY REPORTS FROM JULY 1977 THROUGH MARCH 1978.
