THE DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATION OF ELECTRONIC SECURITY SYSTEMS ARE DESCRIBED IN DETAIL WITH CASE HISTORIES GIVEN TO SHOW THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THIS KIND OF MONITORING.
Abstract
EACH YEAR AT LEAST 20 PERCENT OF TOTAL CORPORATE PROFITS IN THE U.S. ARE LOST TO CRIMINAL ACTIVITY AT A COST OF ABOUT $44 BILLION, FOR 1976. EMPLOYEE CRIME ACCOUNTS FOR PERHAPS 80 PERCENT OF THESE LOSSES. MOST EMPLOYEE CRIME IS THEFT RELATED. EFFECTIVE SECURITY MEASURES CAN AID IN PREVENTING THESE LOSSES. CONTEMPORARY ACCESS CONTROL DEVICES AND APPLICATIONS SUCH AS IN PARKING CONTROL OR BUILDING ENTRY ARE DETAILED AND THEIR ADVANTAGES OVER CONVENTIONAL METHODS OF SECURITY EXPLAINED. THE CARDKEY SYSTEM, WITH MANY VARIATIONS TO MEET PARTICULAR NEEDS, IS DESIGNED TO REDUCE THE RISK OF UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS. THE SYSTEMS INCLUDE MECHANICAL OR ELECTRONIC MECHANICAL CARD EQUIPMENT, ELECTRONIC KEYBOARD ACCESS SYSTEMS, PROGRAMMABLE CARDS, CENTRAL CONTROL SYSTEMS, AND COMPUTER-BASED CENTRAL CONTROL AND ACCESS SYSTEMS. CASE STUDIES, WITH ACCOMPANYING PHOTOGRAPHS, ILLUSTRATE THE VERSATILITY OF THE KINDS OF SYSTEMS IN WELL KNOWN COMMERCIAL, INDUSTRIAL, AND PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANIES. SCHEMATIC DRAWINGS, PHOTOGRAPHS OF EQUIPMENT, AND A GLOSSARY OF TERMS COMPLETE THE TEXT. (RFC)
