This overview article proposes a system level of analysis or system-based model through which implications for policy and practice can usefully be derived in the intervention and prevention of workplace and school violence.
Abstract
There is a range of perspectives on the definition of workplace violence, as well as a wide range of approaches to violence in the workplace. There has been a search for simple causes and unitary solutions which is argued to be avoided due to the very multiplicity of approaches. Although clinical and forensic models are important components to understanding workplace or school violence, perspectives cannot be limited to these models. Procedures to prevent or control workplace and school violence must be based on a system-wide understanding of the organizational and cultural contexts in which it takes place. This article stresses the need for an integrative model, state-of-the-art/science approaches to prevention and intervention based on sound theory and solid scholarship. References
