SPEECHES BY PROPONENTS AND OPPONENTS OF LEGALIZED ABORTION WHICH WERE DELIVERED AT A D.C. BAR ASSOCIATION MEETING.
Abstract
VARIOUS LEGAL ARGUMENTS ARE ADVANCED BY THE SPEAKERS. THOSE IN FAVOR OF LEGALIZED ABORTION ANALYZE THE PERMISSIVE LAWS WHICH ARE IN EFFECT IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AND SEVERAL FOREIGN COUNTRIES. THEY BASE THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL ARGUMENT FOR LEGALIZATION ON THE RIGHT TO PRIVACY IN MATTERS OF SEXUAL CONDUCT AND THE PHYSICIAN-PATIENT PRIVILEGE. THE OPPONENTS OF LEGALIZED ABORTION CONTEND THAT MEDICAL EVIDENCE AND CASE LAW SUPPORT A RIGHT TO LIFE FOR THE UNBORN AND A COMPELLING STATE INTEREST TO PRESERVE THAT RIGHT.
