This equipment standard is a technical document that specifies performance and other requirements that equipment should meet to satisfy the needs of criminal justice agencies for high-quality service. It is intended to establish performance requirements and methods of test for active walk-through metal detectors used to find metal weapons and/or metal contraband carried on a person and/or concealed by a nonmetal object. The detectors are used to maintain and improve the security of correctional and public buildings and to improve the safety of the officers involved. The report contains input from Federal, local, and State law enforcement and corrections agencies. It presents data in five major sections: (1) Requirements for Acceptance; (2) Performance Testing Procedures; (3) Field Testing Procedures; (4) Test Objects Description; and (5) Report Sheets on Requirements for Acceptance, Detection Sensitivity, Speed Test, Repeatability and Discrimination.
