This article provides information and resources to help prevent the targeting and abuse of older adults.
This publication provides a listing of publications, training resources and tools and additional resources released by the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) and other federal agencies on the topic of elder abuse. The publications listed include resources on the measurement of elder maltreatment and exploitation, screening tools, fatality review teams, policy and practice implications of recurrent reports to adult protective services, elder abuse identification for emergency rooms, and practice-based evidence. All publications recent, dating from 2019 to 2023. Training resources and tools include legal support from the American Bar Association;Bureau of Justice Asstance (BJA) court guides; the Elder Abuse Guide for Law Enforcement (EAGLE); the Elder Justice Initiative’s Multidisciplinary Team Technical Assistance Center (MDT TAC); a Vicarious Trauma Toolkit (VTT) from the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC); and more on the investigation, prosecution, and prevention of elder abuse and neglect. The additional resources section includes fraud awareness, domestic violence, and other elder abuse justice initiatives.
