This article discusses a new system in use in Niagara County, NY, for tracking repeat offenders.
Abstract
The system, ROTIN (Repeat Offender Tracking in Niagara), tracks individual bookings and sends alerts to law enforcement on individuals who have been booked more than five times in a 3-year period. ROTIN is used as a crime intelligence system by law enforcement personnel to aid them in their investigations by making available various types of information related to crimes and offenders. The system enables officers to check certain information and also to share this information with other individuals throughout the agency. The department is working on expanding the capabilities of the system with the addition of a real-time crime mapping application. The system is based on Microsoft platforms such as Excel and Visual Studio.
