This report provides a sampling of the most prominent work undertaken by NIJ. It also describes NIJ efforts to disseminate research findings through various formats, including print, online, multimedia, and in-person gatherings. A statement of NIJ's strategic challenges for 2012 features the fostering of science-based criminal justice practice; the translation of knowledge into practice; advancing technology that builds a more efficient, effective, and fair criminal justice system; working across disciplines; and adopting a global perspective. Steps taken to address each of these challenges are outlined. A separate section of the report presents highlights of newly funded projects in FY 2012. The research addressed issues related to crime victims, offenders, forensics, policing, and corrections. Financial data are also presented. 5 exhibits
