Federal programs and activities that address issues related to missing and exploited children include technical assistance, training, research and demonstration, and coordination. In the area of technical assistance, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), serves as the national resource center and clearinghouse for issues related to missing and exploited children. NCMEC is funded by OJJDP. In the area of training, the Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) delivers OJJDP's training courses on missing and exploited children. FVTC develops and delivers training courses for law enforcement officers who investigate cases of missing and exploited children. OJJDP is also responsible for program oversight and implementation of the Jimmy Ryce Law Enforcement Training Center at NCMEC, which is a national training program for both law enforcement executives and investigators. In the area of research and demonstration, OJJDP funds research projects that promote understanding and provide practical recommendations and information for policymakers, legislators, parents, and law enforcement and other professionals who work on missing children issues. Two current research projects are briefly described. In the area of coordination, the Federal Agency Task Force for Missing and Exploited Children identifies gaps and their implications for service delivery by Federal agencies to families and investigators in cases of missing and exploited children.
