Annotation

This report describes the mission of the Child Protection Division (CPD) established by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention in 2000 and summarizes some of its child protection programs and initiatives.

Abstract

The CPD administers projects, programs, and initiatives related to crimes against children and children’s exposure to violence. It provides leadership and funding in the areas of prevention, intervention, treatment, and enforcement. CPD promotes research and effective policies and procedures to address the problems of abused, neglected, missing, and exploited children and children who have been exposed to domestic or community violence. CPD activities include funding research and evaluation on child victimization and exposure to violence; providing information and training and technical assistance to State, local, and community-based agencies; and developing and demonstrating effective child protection initiatives. Child protection projects and initiatives related to court-appointed special advocates, training and technical assistance for child abuse prosecution, and the Children’s Advocacy Center Program. Additional initiatives include the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Missing and Exploited Children’s Training and Technical Assistance Program, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Safe Kids/Safe Streets, and others.
