This technical document presents NIJ Standard-0101.06, Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor a minimum performance standard developed in collaboration with the Office of Law Enforcement Standards (OLES) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) providing precise and detailed test methods.
Abstract
NIJ Standard-0101.06 establishes minimum performance requirements and test methods for the ballistic resistance of personal body armor intended to protect against gunfire. This minimum performance standard is a revision of NIJ Standard-0101.04 (2000) and supersedes the NIJ 2005 Interim Requirements, NIJ Standard-0101.04, and all other revisions and addenda to NIJ Standard-0101.04. This standard is a technical document that specifies the minimum performance requirements that equipment must meet to satisfy the requirements of criminal justice agencies and the methods that shall be used to test this performance. It can be used by body armor manufacturers and purchasers to help determine whether specific models meet the minimum performance standards and test methods identified in this report. The standard was developed in collaboration with the Office of Law Enforcement Standards (OLES) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and produced as part of the Standards and Testing Program of the U.S. Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice (NIJ).
