The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), a component of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, fosters safer communities by providing grants, training and technical assistance (TTA), and criminal justice policy and best practices development to state, local, territorial, and tribal governments, as well as public and private entities. Through investments in programs and TTA that are both field-driven and evidence-based, BJA has a proven track record of supporting researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and elected officials in reducing crime, supporting law enforcement, and combating victimization. This factsheet outlines BJA’s scope and mission, introduces how BJA supports the criminal justice community, and provides contacts to stay abreast of BJA news and information.
