The Children's Cabinet presents a report on trends in youth criminal gang activity in Nevada, and offers recommendations for communities to combat the problem.
Abstract
Included are a definition of "gang": A group of people that form an allegiance for a common purpose and engage in unlawful or criminal behavior; descriptions of types of ethnic gangs that are active in the State: black, Hispanic, white, Asian, Native American, and multiracial; discussions of why youths are joining gangs and what gangs do; and future projections based on statistical analyses. Quotes from gang members are featured throughout the report. The 53 recommendations are explained in detail and appear in the following categories: Community-Based Organizations, Schools, Business, Local Government, Executive, Legislative, Probation and Parole, Law Enforcement, Judicial, Corrections, and Media. 29 references
