This codebook presents the questionnaire and coding from a survey of judges which focused on caseload management in Federal and State trial courts.
Abstract
A total of 104 trial court judges (29 Federal judges and 75 State judges) were interviewed. Questions focused on the judges' views of the specific types of cases which they currently hear, problems associated with these cases, matters which might be handled differently than they are now, and methods currently used to expedite cases. Variables include judges' education and experience, types of cases heard in the previous year, percent of time spent on particular types of cases, characteristics of cases requiring excessive time, and techniques for caseload management.
