COLLECTION OF THIRTEEN ARTICLES DEALING WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION AND ASSESSMENT OF OFFENDER RESTITUTION TO CRIME VICTIMS.
Abstract
THIS VOLUME IS DIVIDED INTO FIVE MAJOR SECTIONS. THE FIRST CONSISTS OF THREE ARTICLES DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A CONTEMPORARY VIEW OF THE PLACE OF THE VICTIM WITHIN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AND TO ACQUAINT THE READER WITH THE HISTORICAL AND CROSS-CULTURAL CONTEXT OF RESTITUTION TO CRIME VICTIMS. THE SECOND SECTION CONSISTS OF TWO ARTICLES DEALING WITH RESEARCH, OPERATIONAL, AND LEGAL ISSUES PERTINENT TO THE USE OF RESTITUTION WITHIN THE ADMINISTRATION OF CRIMINAL LAW. PART THREE DEALS WITH THE USE AND ASSESSMENT OF RESTITUTION AS A CONDITION OF PROBATION. PART FOUR PRESENTS THREE PAPERS DEALING WITH THE USE OF RESTITUTION WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY CORRECTIONAL PROGRAMS AS WELL AS THE WAY IN WHICH A RESTITUTION PROGRAM COULD BE IMPLEMENTED WITHIN A PRISON SETTING. A CONCLUDING PAPER SUMMARIZES SOME OF THE MAJOR ISSUES AND PERSPECTIVES RAISED IN MANY OF THE EARLIER PAPERS. ELEVEN OF THESE PAPERS WERE FIRST PRESENTED IN SUMMARY FORM AT THE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON RESTITUTION HELD IN MINNEAPOLIS (MN) ON NOVEMBER 10 AND 11, 1974. A THREE-PAGE LIST OF SELECTED REFERENCES IS APPENDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
