Abstract
This book provides a useful comparative assessment for those working in the British policing sector. Amongst its principal investigations, the book looks at changes in the balance between central and local financing and control; measures to increase efficiency and effectiveness; crime prevention; policing methods in handling domestic violence; and where the power lies within the French police system, and who actually controls it. The book goes on to identify the similarities and differences between the French and the English systems of policing and policing problems, and considers what lessons might be learnt from the ways in which the French police have tackled these issues.
