STATISTICS AND OPERATIONS ARE REPORTED FOR THE FAMILY COURT DIVISION OF THE COURT OF COMMON PLEAS OF PHILADELPHIA FOR 1978.
Abstract
FOLLOWING A DIRECTORY OF FAMILY COURT DIVISION PERSONNEL, STATISTICS ARE PRESENTED AND OPERATIONS DESCRIBED FOR THE JUVENILE BRANCH, DOMESTIC RELATIONS BRANCH, WOMEN'S BRANCH, DIVORCE AND ANNULMENTS BRANCH, ADOPTION BRANCH, AND MEDICAL BRANCH OF THE FAMILY COURT DIVISION. A TOTAL OF 12,568 NEW CASES OF ALLEGED DELINQUENCY WERE DISPOSED OF BY THE JUVENILE BRANCH, INVOLVING CASES OF 8,810 SEPARATE CHILDREN, AN INCREASE OF 2 PERCENT IN THE NUMBER OF CASES AND A DECREASE OF 1 PERCENT IN THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN COMPARED WITH 1977. THE DOMESTIC RELATIONS BRANCH LISTED 21,200 CASES, AN INCREASE OF 31 PERCENT OVER 1977. CASES LISTED FOR THE WOMEN'S BRANCH NUMBERED 8,810. HEARINGS ON PETITIONS FOR PATERNITY AND SUPPORT ACCOUNTED FOR 45 PERCENT OF THE LISTING AND RESULTED IN THE DISPOSITION OF 1,235 CASES. THERE WERE 8,011 DIVORCE PROCEEDINGS STARTED DURING THE YEAR AND 6,329 DIVORCES GRANTED, AN INCREASE OF 1 PERCENT OVER 1977. IN 1978, 442 ADOPTION PETITIONS WERE GRANTED, INVOLVING 492 ADOPTEES, 466 CHILDREN, AND 26 ADULTS. IN THE MEDICAL BRANCH, 2,168 PSYCHIATRIC EXAMINATIONS AND 1,822 PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMINATIONS WERE PERFORMED, ALONG WITH 3,302 PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS AND 545 DENTAL EXAMINATIONS REQUIRING 2,226 DENTAL TREATMENTS.
