EVALUATES PROJECT TO IMPLEMENT AND MEASURE A COMMUNITY-BASED APPROACH TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL OF BURGLARY, USING VOLUNTEERS AND PERSONNEL IN AN EFFORT TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC IN REDUCTION OF VULNERABILITY.
Abstract
THE PROJECT ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO ACCOMPLISH THIS OBJECTIVE INCLUDE A PHIALDELPHIA POLICE DEPARTMENT CONTRACT WITH THE CRIME COMMISSION OF PHILADELPHIA TO JOIN IN AND CONDUCT A YEAR LONG PROJECT INVOLVING THE USE OF COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS, PRESENTATIONS BY PROJECT STAFF, DISTRIBUTION OF APPROPRIATE LITERATURE AND COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS AND PUBLICITY THROUGH ALL AVAILABLE CHANNELS. THE MAJOR FINDING OF THIS EVALUATION IS THAT AN INNOVATIVE AND POTENTIALLY VERY FRUITFUL PROGRAM OF PREVENTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTED BY THE CRIME COMMISSION AND THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
