This packet of materials on prison and jail overcrowding in Pennsylvania provides background information for a steering committee meeting.
Abstract
Fifteen proposed initiatives to alleviate overcrowding are reviewed. Presented with each initiative are the results of previous task force deliberations and staff's observations and recommendations. The final recommendations for consideration by the steering committee are summarized. A draft outline of the final report of the overcrowding task force is provided. Reference materials include current and future capacity of State correctional institutions, a summary of the governor's budget recommendations and estimated costs, and a summary of recommendations by the Pennsylvania House Subcommittee on Crime and Corrections. Tables are provided.
