This report reviews the activities and accomplishments of the Adult Probation Department of the Maricopa County Superior Court of Arizona during 1976.
Abstract
It briefly reviews the county's probation system, the department's goals, and the services offered by the department. Tabular and graphic data illustrate the number of presentence investigations conducted during the year, the department's caseload, the probation population, and probation terminations. Information is also given on volunteer services, staff development services, employment services for probationers, work order program activities, and special studies and projects undertaken. In 1976, 2,338 adults were placed on probation in the county by the superior court. Of these, 88 percent were male and 12 percent were female. An increase was noted in the number of defendants sentenced for felonies and in the number of probation grants for felony offenders over 1975. As of year end 1976, the department was responsible for 3,809 persons on probation. Also during the year, 825 probationers availed themselves of employment services, and 49 successfully completed the department's work order program. A few photographs and an organizational chart are included.
