AN OVERVIEW OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY, INCLUDING THEORIES ABOUT ITS CAUSES AND METHODS OF TREATMENT, IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
AN HISTORICAL APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY INCLUDES REFERENCE TO THE THEORIES OF LOMBROSO, ACCORDING TO WHICH PHYSIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS WERE DIRECTLY RELATED TO CRIMINALITY; THESE VIEWS HAVE BEEN WIDELY REFUTED, BUT SERVED AS AN IMPETUS FOR SERIOUS SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF DELINQUENCY. THE CAUSES OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY CAN BE DIVIDED INTO TWO CATEGORIES: ENDOGENOUS FACTORS, SUCH AS PSYCHOPATHY, NEUROSES, ALCOHOLISM, PSYCHOSIS, AND OTHER DISORDERS; AND ENDOGENOUS FACTORS, SUCH AS SOCIAL, FAMILY, AND SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT. SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF MODERN SOCIETY, INCLUDING THE WORK AND EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMS, HAVE A CORRELATION TO JUVENILE DELINQUENCY. VARIOUS TYPES OF TREATMENT FOR JUVENILE DELINQUENCY INCLUDE PSYCHOANALYSIS, REALITY THERAPY, GROUP PSYCHOTHERAPY, AND THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITIES, IN ADDITION TO SEVERAL THERAPEUTIC SCHOOLS OR TRAINING CAMPS. EDUCATION OF JUVENILES IS SEEN AS THE KEY TO CURBING JUVENILE DELINQUENCY. --IN SPANISH.
