This document contains the daily chronology compiled for members of Congress as a record of daily developments after the November 4, 1979, seizure of the American Embassy and 66 U.S. hostages in Tehran, Iran, until December 31, 1980.

Abstract

Information was drawn from unclassified news sources and foreign broadcasts. No attempt was made to verify each report; items later proved false or inconsequential have not been deleted. In addition, a chronology covering major events for the 2 years prior to the embassy and hostage seizure was added to provide a frame of reference for the crisis. A narrative of approximately one page is provided for each day's events.
