This report deals with internationally-traded equities and the markets and investors dealing with those securities.
Abstract
The report provides basic information on the following aspects of international equities trading, its expansion, and its problems: a review of statistics on the growth of international financial transactions in general and equity trading in particular; the development of Eurobonds as the most significant precursor of international equity trading on a large scale; instrumentalities that have been developed to facilitate trading in equities across national boundaries; steps taken by stock exchanges and other institutions to increase their capacity to trade equities internationally; and links established between exchanges and other institutions of different countries. The report also discusses the problem related to protecting investors and other market participants in this growing international stock market and how to resolve some of these problems. The conclusion presents several important issues still to be investigated and resolved. 54 footnotes, 5 tables, and 1 chart (Author abstract modified)
