This report provides an overview of the Green Book Initiative, an interagency demonstration project supporting the implementation of recommended policy and practice guidelines that address domestic violence and child maltreatment.
Abstract
The Green Book Initiative is a Federal interagency demonstration project based on recommendations published in the “Effective Intervention in Domestic Violence and Child Maltreatment Cases: Guidelines for Policy and Practice”, focusing on interventions and ways to measure progress in communities seeking to improve their responses to families experiencing domestic violence and child maltreatment. The Initiative fosters and enhances collaborations among various agencies with the goal of providing more effective ways to achieve safety and well being for intimate partner victims and their children. Six sites were selected to implement the collaboration approach with a goal of improving responses to protect and empower women who are victims of abuse and their children. The guidelines recommend ways to develop and implement cross system policy and staff development, improve procedures within each system, hold batters accountable, and locate greater community resources for victims and families. Three additional components of the Initiative include: a comprehensive national evaluation, a national consortium of training and technical assistance resources, and a team of Federal partners.
