This article describes various available information technologies that can enhance the management of border security.
Abstract
IBM's Candidate Intelligence solutions allows for exchanging information among government agencies and between government agencies and the private sector while ensuring the protection of privacy and civil liberties. It provides border management agencies the ability to share identity and relationship information with third parties without disclosing the identity of the person to whom the information relates; to share identity information only when accurate counting or accurate linking of individual records is useful; and to share information whenever there are legal, business, or other disadvantages to sharing the information in identified form. Computer Sciences Corporation's (CSC's) Border and Immigration Solutions (BIS) Center of Excellence offers expertise in identity management, credentialing, risk assessment, biometric, and entry-exit systems. CSC's border management and immigration projects span the globe, from implementing national ID cards in Europe and Asia, to securing military facilities in the Middle East, to helping U.S. customs detect fraud and suspicious persons at the borders. Viisage's border management offerings range from document authentication and biometric verification and identification to fully integrated area security solutions. Automated document authentication is accomplished through sophisticated electronic analysis that uses advanced scanning techniques. Viisage offers modular biometric-capture systems for face and fingerprints, using desktop devices or self-service kiosks. Viisage's FaceFINDER meets the demands for a modern screening and surveillance identification solution. It scans individuals' faces in waiting queues, either detecting known illegal immigrants or asylum seekers previously expelled for using multiple identities, or to offer fast-lane services for registered travelers in airline bonus programs.
