Intended mainly for use by new crime analysts and their supervisors, this volume was written to guide them in establishing a crime analysis program.
Abstract
The text presents both the concepts involved in crime analysis and practical instructions for determining crime patterns, forecasting crimes, and developing the processes necessary to provide a variety of support services to patrol and investigative personnel. Individual sections provide a historical overview of crime analysis; explain the differences between tactical, strategic, and administrative crime analysis; discuss applications of crime analysis; and provide step-by-step guidelines for developing and operating a crime analysis unit. Other chapters discuss the use of volunteers in crime analysis programs, the development of programs to manage patrol operations and criminal investigations, automation issues, and the use of statistical methods in analyzing crime.
