This annual report covers data reported for the calendar year 1978 and examines Index Crimes in the seven counties of Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton, Gwinnett, and Rockdale in the State of Georgia.
          Abstract
The analysis is designed to keep citizens informed and aware of the extent of crime in the region and in their community and to provide information to criminal justice officials for planning purposes. The information in the report was derived from three sources. A survey form sent to all of the 49 Atlanta region law enforcement agencies requested information on Part I offenses (Index Crimes) concerning the number of offenses and those cleared by arrest. Population figures were extracted from a report on population and housing from the Atlanta Regional Commission, while labor force information came from a report from the Georgia Department of Labor. The report is purely descriptive and does not evaluate law enforcement effectiveness. For each county, information is provided under the headings of demographic features and crime analysis. A table gives data on number, rate of change, and percent cleared for violent crimes, property crimes, and jurisdiction offense totals. A table on the total Atlanta region and statistical summary tables are included.
