DATA OBTAINED DURING CALENDAR YEAR 1972 ON DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS AND INSTITUTIONAL PERFORMANCE, VIOLATION RATES BY INSTITUTION, AND VIOLATION RATES BY LIVING UNIT FOR EACH INSTITUTION.
Abstract
BASIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE 1972 PAROLEES ARE FIRST EXAMINED. MOST WERE COMMITTED BY THE JUVENILE COURTS, AND WERE FIRST ADMISSIONS. SIXTY PERCENT OF THE FEMALES WERE WHITE, WHILE ONLY 48 PERCENT OF MALES WERE WHITE. ONLY 6 PERCENT OF THE MALES AND 33 PERCENT OF THE FEMALES WERE INVOLVED IN ANY SPECIAL PROGRAMS. APPROXIMATELY 30 PERCENT OF MALES AND FEMALES RECEIVED WORK EXPERIENCE AS PART OF THEIR TRAINING PROGRAMS. FORTY PERCENT OF THE MALES AND 82 PERCENT OF THE FEMALES WERE IN FULL-TIME ACADEMIC SCHOOL PROGRAMS. VIOLATION RATES BY INSTITUTION ARE DISCUSSED IN RELATION TO VARIOUS FACTORS SUCH AS AGE AT RELEASE OR ETHNIC GROUP. ALTHOUGH VIOLATIONS BY LIVING GROUP ARE ALSO PRESENTED, THE AUTHOR CAUTIONS AGAINST DRAWING ANY CONCLUSIONS DUE TO SMALL NUMBERS. FOR EACH SECTION DISCUSSED, STATISTICAL INFORMATION IS PROVIDED IN TABULAR FORM.
