The EMPOWER Program is one of two rigorous, multiyear demonstration projects funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) to prevent the abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of older adults in the community who are at risk for mistreatment. During the project's recently completed Planning Phase, researchers at the Urban Institute worked closely with practitioners at the Area Agency on Aging, Region One, to develop and pretest an evidence-informed program to improve older adults' physical, mental, social, and financial resilience.
Presenters will describe how the program was developed in collaboration with NIJ and expert advisors, pretest implementation findings, and plans for the large-scale, randomized controlled pilot study about to launch.
The webinar aims to help researchers and practitioners considering similar partnership efforts focused on elder abuse or other victimizations, and teams working on phased evaluation demonstrations.
