Background
The program was developed through the Yale University Child Study Center's Child Development-Community Policing Program.

Police-Mental Health Partnership
The combined expertise of law enforcement and mental health professionals is used to determine where in the community children perceive danger.

Police Officer Participation and Selection
Participating officers are selected based on availability, expressed interest, and community connections.

Participants
The program targets communities where children are likely to be exposed to violence and trauma.

Process
Student participation in the program is voluntary.

Program Evaluation
Current evaluations have incorporated assessments already used by local public school systems.

Preliminary Evaluation Results
The program appears to improve both students' relationships with law enforcement and their ability to cope with the emotional effects of violence.

Technical Training and Assistance
The basic principles of this program can be adapted to the needs and resources of other communities.
