HEARING OF THE REVIEW PANEL ON PRISON RAPE

WASHINGTON – The Review Panel on Prison Rape will hold hearings in Washington, D.C.., on September 30 and October 1, 2008. The hearings will be based on the Bureau of Justice Statistics’ (BJS) recent report, Sexual Victimization in Local Jails Reported by Inmates, 2007. The purpose of the hearing is to assist BJS in identifying common characteristics of victims and perpetrators of rape in county jails with the highest and lowest incidence of rape. Representatives from the Torrance County, New Mexico Jail Facility, an identified facility with a high prevalence of sexual victimization, will testify on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2008 AT 9 A.M. EDT. Representatives from the Bernalillo County, New Mexico Jail Facility, another facility with a high prevalence of sexual victimization, will testify on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2008 AT 9 A.M.
