DESCRIPTION OF VARIOUS TYPES OF ACTIVITIES ENGAGED IN BY YOUTH WORKERS (PROFESSIONAL OR VOLUNTEER) AND DISCUSSION OF THE CAUSES OF FRICTION BETWEEN YOUTH WORKERS AND POLICE.
Abstract
SOME POLICEMEN HAVE A POOR OPINION OF YOUTH CLUBS AND YOUTH HOUSES, ASSUMING THAT UNDESIRABLE ACTIVITIES GO ON IN THOSE CENTERS AND THAT THE PEOPLE RUNNING THEM ARE NOT OF VERY HIGH CHARACTER. WHILE YOUTH WORKERS REALIZE THAT THE POLICE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENFORCING THE LAW, SOME OF THEM ARE VERY SENSITIVE TO ANY POLICE INTERVENTION, ESPECIALLY IF IT IS CARRIED OUT TACTLESSLY OR INVOLVES LARGE NUMBERS OF POLICEMEN. -- IN DUTCH
