SURVEY OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE OFFICIALS REGARDING THE EXPERIMENT INVOLVING MORE PASSES AND FURLOUGHS, MORE CONTACT WITH THE CIVILIAN POPULATION, AND MORE FREQUENT INMATE MEETINGS AT THE GAVLE PRISON IN SWEDEN.
Abstract
QUESTIONNAIRES WERE SENT TO 565 OFFICIALS BUT ONLY 206 OF THEM RESPONDED. THE AUTHORS REGARD THIS AS A BAD SIGN SINCE IT SEEMS TO INDICATE A LACK OF INTEREST IN WHAT IS GOING ON IN CORRECTIONS. IN GENERAL, THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THOSE WHO RESPONDED WERE FAVORABLE TO THE EXPERIMENT AT GAVLE. RESPONSES TO THE QUESTIONNAIRE ARE PRESENTED IN THE FORM OF TABLES. THE QUESTIONS ASKED ON THE QUESTIONNAIRE AND SOME OF THE ANSWERS TO THEM APPEAR IN APPENDIXES. REASONS GIVEN FOR ANSWERING AS THEY DID CITED BY THOSE WHO RESPONDED APPEAR IN TABULAR FORM IN AN APPENDIX. TWO LISTS OF PUBLICATIONS BY THE SWEDISH NATIONAL CORRECTIONAL ADMINISTRATION ARE INCLUDED. --IN SWEDISH
