A SURVEY ON THE EXTENT TO WHICH POLICE AGENCIES IN CALIFORNIA HAVE BEEN ORGANIZING IN-HOUSE SYSTEMS ANALYSIS STAFFS.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR SURVEYED 101 LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES CONSISTING OF: 17 LARGER MUNICIPAL POLICE DEPARTMENTS SERVING POPULATIONS OF 100,000 OR MORE; 61 SMALLER POLICE DEPARTMENTS SERVING BETWEEN 5,000 AND 99,999 PEOPLE; AND 23 SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENTS. THE SURVEY ALSO OBTAINED SPECIFIC INFORMATION ON A NUMBER OF IMPORTANT ORGANIZING VARIABLES INCLUDING: TOP MANAGEMENT SUPPORT FOR SYSTEMS ANALYSIS; USE OF CONSULTANTS; COST REQUIREMENTS; STAFFING AND RECRUITMENT GUIDELINES; NEED FOR AN ANALYTICAL CAPABILITY; AND OTHER ORGANIZING CONSIDERATIONS.
