RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF STATE ATTORNEYS GENERAL, STATE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSIONERS, SECRETARIES OF STATE; STATE PLANNING AGENCIES, AND STATE POLICE AGENCIES TO DETERMINE THE EXACT NUMBER OF PUBLICLY FUNDED ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES.
Abstract
THE SURVEY FOUND THAT SOME 20,114 PUBLICLY FUNDED LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES EXIST. THESE INCLUDE SUCH DIVERSE ORGANIZATIONS AS FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, STATE POLICE OR PATROL AGENCIES, COUNTY UNITS, DISTRICT/ MUNICIPAL/LOCAL AGENCIES, AND COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY POLICE ORGANIZATIONS. THE FUNCTIONS AND SERVICES OF SOME OF THESE AGENCIES ARE BRIEFLY DESCRIBED.
