Abstract
THE ARTICLE ALSO DISCUSSES PROBLEMS OF RACIAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE PREDOMINANTLY ALL WHITE POLICE AS THEY ENTER A MINORITY COMMUNITY. THE AUTHORS SEE THE POLICE OFFICER AS A VICTIM OF THE COMMUNITY HE SERVES, WHERE HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE COMMUNITY IS FURTHER COMPLICATED BY THE NATURE OF THE SERVICE HE PROVIDES. THIS ARTICLE IS DERIVED FROM A STUDY OF THE ADMINISTRATION, BEHAVIOR, AND MEANING OF BEAT PATROLMEN IN ROCHESTER (NY).
