RESULTS OF A QUESTIONNAIRE ON DRUG USE BY STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GENT, BELGIUM AND A STUDY OF THE PRESENTATION AND TREATMENT OF DRUG-RELATED NEWS AND INFORMATION, BY BELGIAN NEWSPAPERS.
Abstract
THE QUESTIONNAIRE INDICATED THAT ONLY A SMALL NUMBER OF THE 312 MALE AND 106 FEMALE RESPONDANTS HAVE EXPERIMENTED WITH DRUGS. FURTHERMORE, DRUGS ARE GENERALLY CONSIDERED BY THIS GROUP TO BE DANGEROUS TO SOCIETY AND TO THE INDIVIDUAL. THE ANALYSIS OF BELGIAN NEWSPAPERS INDICATED A HIGH LEVEL OF COVERAGE CONCERNING DRUGS THAT IS, HOWEVER, NOT ALWAYS RELIABLE. THIS STUDY WAS A CONTRIBUTION OF THE SOCIOLOGY SEMINAR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GENT, BELGIUM TO THE CRIMINOLOGICAL CONGRESS ORGANIZED BY THE INSTITUTE FOR SOCIOLOGY OF THE FREE UNIVERSITY OF BRUSSELS, BELGIUM. -- IN DUTCH
