ANALYSIS OF PRACTICES RELATING TO CRIME AND PUNISHMENT AMONG THE INCAS, A GREAT EMPIRE THAT FLOURISHED IN PERU AND ADJACENT AREAS IN PRE-COLUMBIAN TIMES.
Abstract
THIS PAPER PROVIDES EVIDENCE THAT THE EVOLUTION OF THE RIGHT TO PUNISH HAS FOLLOWED SIMILAR PATTERNS AMONG THE DIFFERENT HUMAN CULTURES. THE SAME PRINICPLES ARE FOUND IN THE INCAN CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AS IN PRESENT-DAY PENAL CODES AND INSTITUTIONS. THE PAPER DEALS WITH THE CATALOGUE OF CRIMES AND PRESCRIBED REACTIONS IN THE AREAS OF LIFE, HEALTH, MORALITY, PROPERTY, AND AUTHORITY.
