DESCRIPTION OF SOME OF THE PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED BY SOCIAL WORKERS IN A MAXIMUM SECURITY, MIDWESTERN TRAINING SCHOOL FOR BOYS, PLUS ADVICE ON POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS, BASED ON THE AUTHOR'S PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR MAINTAINS THAT ALTHOUGH POOR COMMUNICATION WITH CLIENTS, ROLE CLASHES WITH COTTAGE YOUTH LEADERS, AND EXCESSIVE LIMITATIONS IMPOSED BY THE INSTITUTION USUALLY DEFEAT THE MAJORITY OF SOCIAL WORKERS, SKILLFUL SOCIAL WORKERS STILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE INSTRUMENTAL IN CREATING MORE THERAPEUTIC ENVIRONMENTS FOR THEIR CLIENTS. TWO SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT PROGRAMS ARE DESCRIBED AND THEIR POSSIBLE APPLICATION TO OTHER INSTITUTIONAL SETTINGS DISCUSSED.
