POLICE AGENCIES AND ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS SURROUNDING BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA, ARE WORKING TOGETHER TO PROVIDE REGIONAL ADVANCED AND IN-SERVICE TRAINING.
Abstract
UNIVERSITY PROFESSORS AND LOCAL POLICE AGENCIES COOPERATED TO DEVELOP COURSES DEALING WITH SPECIFIC SUBJECTS NEEDED BY THE AGENCIES. COURSES PROVIDE BOTH THE INITIAL 240 HOURS OF RECRUIT TRAINING REQUIRED BY THE STATE AND ADVANCED TRAINING FOR OFFICERS AND POLICE MANAGERS. CLASSES ARE HELD IN BIRMINGHAM AS WELL AS OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE REGION WHERE THE LOCAL CHIEF CAN GUARANTEE THAT AT LEAST TEN OFFICERS FROM HIS OR NEARBY COMMUNITIES WILL ATTEND.
