THE THREE STUDIES ON WHICH THIS REPORT IS BASED INVESTIGATED THE ATTITUDES, BELIEFS, AND BEHAVIOR OF ADULTS AND YOUNG PEOPLE TOWARDS THE POLICE AND THOSE OF THE POLICE TOWARDS ADULTS AND YOUNG PEOPLE.
Abstract
TOPICS COVERED IN THE SURVEYS INCLUDE SOME GENERALIZED REACTIONS TO AND JUDGEMENTS ABOUT THE FORCE; HOW THE POLICE ARE THOUGHT TO BEHAVE IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS; CIRCUMSTANCES AND POLICE BEHAVIOR LIKELY TO AFFECT POLICE-PUBLIC RELATIONS; POLICE BEHAVIOR AND ATTITUDES TOWARDS CERTAIN SUB-GROUPS IN THE POPULATION; AND THE DUTIES OF THE POLICE IN THE CONTEXT OF POLICE-PUBLIC RELATIONS. OTHER TOPICS INCLUDE THE POWERS OF THE POLICE; THE SOCIAL PHILOSOPHY OF POLICE OFFICERS AND THEIR VIEWS ABOUT THE PUBLIC; THE PUBLIC'S WILLINGNESS TO HELP THE POLICE; SUGGESTIONS TO POLICE OFFICERS FOR IMPROVING POLICE-PUBLIC RELATIONS; KNOWLEDGEABILITY CONCERNING THE POLICE AND POLICING ARRANGEMENTS; AND COMPARING ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIOR IN DIFFERENT POPULATION SECTORS.
