Abstract
THE PSYCHOLOGY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF THE JUVENILE OFFENDER ARE FIRST DISCUSSED. FACTORS WHICH SHAPE BEHAVIOR, SUCH AS THE FAMILY AND THE PEER GROUP ARE THEN ANALYZED. FORCES SUCH AS FAMILY PRESSURES, PEER GROUP PRESSURES, AND SOCIOLOGICAL FACTORS ARE STUDIED IN RELATION TO HETEROSEXUAL AND HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR IN THE JUVENILE. THE AUTHOR REVIEWS THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE JUVENILE COURT AND DISCUSSES PROBLEMS SUCH AS LABELING AND JUVENILE RIGHTS IN RELATION TO THE COURT. DRUG ABUSE, MENTAL ILLNESS AND YOUTH CRIME, AND DEFICIENCIES IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM AS AN EFFECTIVE INSTITUTION OF EDUCATION AND SOCIALIZATION ARE EXAMINED. PERSONALITY THEORIES, ESPECIALLY THOSE OF FREUD AND SKINNER, AND THE EFFECTS OF RACISM AND THE GHETTO ARE ALSO DISCUSSED. AN INSTRUCTOR'S MANUAL FOR THE TEXTBOOK, INCLUDING SUGGESTED OBJECTIVES, METHODS, AND EXAMINATIONS IS PROVIDED.
