INTENDED FOR POLICE OFFICERS AND POLICE STUDENTS, THIS TEXT PRESENTS A COMPREHENSIVE OVERVIEW OF POLICE COMMUNICATIONS AND EXPLORES BOTH THE HUMAN ASPECTS OF COMMUNICATION AND COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT.
Abstract
AN OVERVIEW OF POLICE COMMUNICATIONS HARDWARE IS FIRST PRESENTED. TYPES OF HUMAN COMUNICATION ARE THEN DISCUSSED, INCLUDING MASS MEDIA, GROUP COMMUNICATIONS, AND SPEAKER-AUDIENCE COMMUNICATION. FACTORS AFFECTING COMMUNICATION, SUCH AS PERCEPTION, NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION, LANGUAGE, AND CULTURE ARE ALSO EXAMINED. EXERCISES IN PERCEPTION AND NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION ARE INCLUDED. FINDINGS WITH RESPECT TO CULTURAL ORIENTATIONS ARE PRESENTED, AND CULTURAL LEXICONS OF BOTH THE BLACK AND CHICANO CULTURES ARE PROVIDED. FINALLY, SPECIFIC GUIDELINES FOR THE POLICE OFFICER ARE PROVIDED ON ESTABLISHING DEFENSE AND SUPPORTIVE CLIMATES, LISTENING, PUBLIC SPEAKING, INTERVIEWING, AND HANDLING POLICE COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT....DMC
