A TECHNICAL REPORT PRESENTING RESEARCH RESULTS FOR THE SUB-PROJECT ON THE OFFENDER AND HIS FAMILY FUNDED FOR THE KANSAS STATE RECEPTION AND DIAGNOSTIC CENTER BY THE GOVERNOR'S COMMITTEE ON CRIMINAL ADMINISTRATION.
Abstract
THE REPORT AND THE RESEARCH PROJECT WERE AN ATTEMPT BY THE CENTER RESEARCH STAFF TO IDENTIFY BACKGROUND CHARACTERISTICS. INTERVIEWS AND QUESTIONNAIRES WERE ADMINISTERED TO 97 INMATES AND THEIR FAMILIES. RECOMMENDATIONS DRAWN FROM THE STUDY RESULTS INCLUDED: THAT VISITING AND MAIL PRIVILEGES SHOULD BE INCREASED SO THAT INMATE-FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS CAN BE CULTIVATED; THAT DRUG ABUSE AND DRUG EDUCATION PROGRAMS SHOULD BE INSTITUTED IN ALL PENAL FACILITIES, AND; THAT A MORE COMPLETE AWARENESS OF COMMUNITY-HELP RESOURCES BE MADE.
