Abstract
PROVISIONS OF THE TWO PROPOSED BILLS ARE FIRST PRESENTED. H.R. 9298 IS A BILL TO STRENGTHEN INTERSTATE REPORTING AND INTERSTATE SERVICES FOR PARENTS OF RUNAWAY CHILDREN; TO CONDUCT RESEARCH ON THE SIZE OF THE RUNAWAY YOUTH POPULATION; AND FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT, MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF TEMPORARY HOUSING AND COUNSELING SERVICES FOR TRANSIENT YOUTH. THE SECOND BILL, H.R. 6265, INVOLVES ESTABLISHMENT OF FEDERAL ASSISTANCE FOR STATE AND LOCAL PROGRAMS TO INCREASE EFFECTIVE DELINQUENCY PREVENTION AND TREATMENT PROGRAMS AND TO DEVELOP PROGRAMS TO DIVERT JUVENILES FROM THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM; TO ESTABLISH A NATIONAL OFFICE OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY PREVENTION; AND TO ESTABLISH A NATIONAL ADVISORY COUNCIL FOR JUVENILE DELINQUENCY PREVENTION. WITNESSES INCLUDED REPRESENTATIVES FROM JUVENILE DELINQUENCY PREVENTION AND TREATMENT PROGRAMS, POLICE JUVENILE RELATIONS DIVISIONS, SCHOOLS AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIONS, AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCIES.
