THIS REPORT PROVIDES A FOLLOW-UP TO NCJ 41308 ON THE VALUE OF FAMILY THERAPY IN IOWA AND WHO BENEFITS FROM IT.
Abstract
IN THE TIME THAT THE OTTUMWA FAMILY THERAPY UNIT HAS BEEN IN OPERATION AND HAS BEEN EVALUATED, IT APPEARS THAT ITS SUCCESS RATE WITH FAMILIES IN THERAPY HAS BEEN SOMEWHAT LESS FAVORABLE THAN FOR OTHER FAMILY THERAPY UNITS INCLUDED IN THE PROJECT EVALUATIONS. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT ONLY PERSONS WHO HAVE COMPLETED APPROPRIATE GRADUATE TRAINING PROGRAMS BE HIRED AS THERAPISTS, THAT AT LEAST ONE MEMBER OF EACH FAMILY THERAPY TEAM HAVE A MINIMUM OF TWO YEARS OF SUPERVISED EXPERIENCE IN DOING THERAPY, AND THAT A CAREFULLY STRUCTURED ON-GOING TRAINING PROGRAM BE SET UP TO INCLUDE ALL TEAMS DOING THERAPY WITH FAMILIES OF DELINQUENTS OR PRE-DELINQUENTS IN IOWA....BDS
