This report provides data on the death sentence for female offenders in the United States during the post-Furman era (1973-89).

Abstract

Data cover the number of female death sentences compared to total death sentences and the percentage of the total. Where possible, the following information is provided for each offender by year: offender's name, race, State, date of the crime, date of the sentence, and current case status. The report summarizes the author's data on the execution of female offenders throughout American history. Such data show only 397 documented instances, including the first one in 1632. The incidence of the execution of females has declined considerably in the 20th century compared to earlier centuries. The data in this report, covering 1973-89, show a continuation of this trend.
