THE AUTHOR STATES THAT IN MILLS' WORK CAN BE FOUND A COMPREHENSIVE MODEL OF MAN, SOCIETY, AND THEIR HISTORICAL INTERRELATIONSHIP, AND THAT THIS MODEL CAN PROVIDE THE BASIS FOR A THEORY OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR.
Abstract
BASED ON A GENERAL WORKING MODEL OF A SOCIAL SYSTEM WHICH HE INDICATES IS IMPLICIT IN MILL'S WORKS, THE AUTHOR SKETCHES THE DIRECTIONS A RELATAVISTIC THEORY OF CRIME BASED ON THAT MODEL MIGHT TAKE. IMPLICATIONS ARE NOTED FOR THE FORMULATION OF CRIMINAL LAW, FREEDOM AND DETERMINISM, THE PROCESS THROUGH WHICH THE INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPS BEHAVIORAL PATTERNS WHICH ARE LABELLED CRIMINAL, AND THE MECHANISMS THROUGH WHICH SOCIETY DEFINES CRIMINALITY.
