RESULTS OF STUDY TO ASSESS OBJECTIVELY THE IMPACT OF INSTITUTIONALIZATION ON THE VALUE SYSTEMS OF OFFENDERS.
Abstract
ADOLESCENT OFFENDERS WERE TESTED WITH THE ROKEACH VALUE SURVEY AT ADMISSION TO TRAINING SCHOOL. THEY WERE RETESTED AT RELEASE. A CONTROL GROUP MATCHED ON AGE, SEX, AND RACE WAS ALSO TESTED AND RETESTED AFTER THE SAME INTERVAL. THE DATA SHOW THAT A TRAINING SCHOOL EXPERIENCE HAS LITTLE IMPACT ON VALUE SYSTEMS AND WHAT IMPACT THERE IS MAY BE INTERPRETED AS A RETARDATION OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MATURE AND INDEPENDENT SET OF VALUES.
