BOOKLET DESCRIBES SOME OF THE FACTORS THAT COME INTO PLAY IN THE WAKE OF A KIDNAPPING, AND HOW THOSE FACTORS AFFECT PERSONS WHO HAVE BEEN KIDNAPPED.
Abstract
MOST OF THE AMERICAN OFFICIALS WHO WERE KIDNAPPED AND SURVIVED WERE INTERVIEWED FOR THIS STUDY. THEY REPORTED A VARIETY OF EXPERIENCES FOLLOWING THE INCIDENT. SOME EXPERIENCED MENTAL OR PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMAS, OTHERS WERE OSTRACIZED BY FAMILY, OR FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES. THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THE VIRTUE OF PASSIVE SURRENDER TO THE TERRORISTS, OR RESISTANCE. THE STUDY ALSO LOOKS AT SOME OF THE PHENOMENA THAT GRIP THE HOSTAGE WHILE BEING HELD, SUCH AS FEARS OF TOO CLOSELY COLLABORATING WITH THE CAPTORS....BS
